Taking Care Of Island Furniture

Treating Furniture

These products are constructed of re-dried pressure-treated pine.

Unless used under cover, it is recommended that a water repellent be applied once a year or products may be painted with an outdoor paint or stain. This will slow the natural aging process and reduce surface checking. Since this wood is already dried, no waiting period is needed before applying your surface coating.

Other Tips to Keep your Outdoor Furniture Beautiful

  • Take it in – if possible. The winter months can be harmful to wood, especially if you live in a non-temperate climate. An alternative to storing indoors is to place it beneath a porch or overhang and cover it.
  • Consider the legs – Chair legs and table legs that are in the grass or poolside can become saturated with water. If your furniture is located in a damp or wet area, you can cover the bottom of the furniture leg with rubberized material.
  • Watch out for chemicals – Exposure to chemicals and other things (solvents, chlorine, flower nectar) can harm your outdoor wooden furniture. If you spill anything on your furniture, be sure to clean it off immediately.
